Saving Lives – By The Numbers

May 12, will be Florence Nightingale’s birthday (1820-1910). Famous as a pioneer of modern nursing, Nightingale was also an accomplished statistician who found many ways to make numbers, facts and figures compelling and usable. During the Crimean War, she had great success in reducing death rates in military hospitals. Afterwards, she used statistics to convince British authorities to adopt the practices that had saved so many lives - creating enormous benefits over many decades.

Keep track of your facts, figures and stats related to your mitigation, planning and preparedness efforts. Dollars saved, losses averted, return on investment and assets leveraged are all compelling arguments and help decision-makers find their way to funding and supporting preparedness and mitigation.
