Learning from Chernobyl
It has been 20 years since the April 26, 1986, Chernobyl nuclear plant disaster. The entire community has been dealing with the changing health, economic, environmental and other long-term issues of this tragedy ever since. Trained responders in full hazmat gear were needed at the time of the accident, while today, environmental cleanup teams and security details have ongoing responsibilities.
Consider the immediate, short-term, mid-range and long-term implications of disasters in your community, and the different stakeholders -- those who need help, those who offer it and, and the many who are both.
